Seniors, Sex, Travel & Romance! Oh, my!
It’s exciting to go on vacation, especially when you are going to new places. Vacations reduce stress and give you more time to reconnect with your partner. You don’t need to deal with the mundane activities of being at home. Often, you feel the same excitement as you did when you were young and that can lead to more sex. This is especially true when you are in a romantic setting.
A study published in March 2017 in the Archives of Sexual Behavior noted a decline in sexual frequency among Americans of all ages. The sole exception: people over 70. Who would have thought that?! The study was conducted since 1972. It is noteworthy that the baby boomers, the flower children of the 60’s are still hot. This finding is in line with The National Commission on Aging which reported that the majority of the over-70 group found sex to be more emotionally and physically satisfying than when they were middle-aged.
Now, please, don’t feel left out if you are a younger senior. You might be yet to come into your own.
Unlike your much younger years, you might now be reluctant to discuss or ask questions about sexuality, aging and relationships. Men and women of all ages can experience feelings of discomfort that might just come from lack of knowledge regarding these issues. It’s often hard to admit let alone ask some questions.
Robert Berend is here to help. On Thursday, February 3, 2022, from 7 to 8 P.M. Boston time, the Lexington Community Center will be hosting a FREE Zoom-based discussion on sexuality, relationships, and aging. Open and free to everyone. The only thing you have to do is register.
