Happy New Year: A Year for New Adventures

Make 2025 THE YEAR to Travel

Happy New Year!

Here’s wishing you a year filled with joy, excellent health, and exciting travel plans.

This blog shines a spotlight on senior travel, but anyone, at any age, can discover great ideas and inspiration here.

Over the holidays, one theme kept coming up in conversations with friends and family: 2025 is going to be THE YEAR for unforgettable travel adventures.

One recurring sentiment stood out, especially among my female friends. Many shared they were done waiting for others to join their dream trips. At a holiday dinner, one of my closest friends even declared, “I’m no longer begging people to go with me! If I want to go somewhere, see something, do something, I’m going. If they want to come, great!”

The message was clear: time and ability are precious, and the opportunity to explore can’t wait.

Going it Alone Doesn’t Have to be Challenging

Embracing Solo Travel

Over the past year or so, I’ve been amazed by how many of my vintage friends have embraced solo travel. For some, it’s a decision born of necessity—if they can’t find a travel partner, they’d rather go it alone than miss out. For others, it’s an intentional choice. Solo travel offers the freedom to:

  • Do exactly what you want.

  • Eat what and when you like.

  • Meet new people and forge unique connections.

While many solo senior travelers opt for organized tours, others prefer to travel independently and book day or multi-day trips through platforms like Viator or GetYourGuide. You might assume these travelers are outgoing and gregarious, but you’d be surprised how many introverted adventurers have stepped out of their comfort zones to explore the world on their own terms.

Changing Dynamics

New Friends

Interestingly, not all solo travelers are single. Many have partners who aren’t interested in traveling or who can’t join them due to health reasons. Rather than put their dreams on hold, or worst, never achieve them, these travelers are seizing the moment. After all, healthy seniors understand the importance of packing in as much as they can while they still can.

On nearly every tour my husband and I have taken in recent years, we’ve met solo travelers—both men and women—embracing this trend. Their stories are inspiring reminders that the love of travel knows no boundaries.
