Eat - Cazadero

If you don’t BBQ or have a pizza on a Friday night at Raymond’s Bakery you will want to go to Guerneville or to the Coast.  Guerneville is more accessible about twenty-three minutes away and is a pretty easy drive.  If you go to Guerneville make sure you take note of the place to turn to go back to Cazadero. Don’t just rely on your GPS.  It gets really dark at night. If you go to Jenner or to Bodega Bay it is about a half-hour or more of a ride depending on the time and weather conditions.  But be aware at certain times there can be quite a bit of fog between Cazadero and these locations. There are only a few restaurants to choose from in Jenner, including some excellent ones.   You will find more in Bodega Bay, including a Michelin-starred restaurant (more about that later).  The easiest choice is to dine in Guerneville where you will find several good restaurants such as the Main Street Bistro which offers a nice selection of food, bar menu, and music too.  It is open pretty late for a small town.   This might sound like an unconventional combination of food offerings but people seem to really like Koala’s Fine Food which offers hamburgers and sushi! I go for sushi and my husband loves a good hamburger. Also, there are a couple of places in the nearby (about fifteen minutes away) in the tiny town of Duncan Mills that are good for lunch or breakfast or a very early dinner.  We’ve liked the Gold Coast Coffee and Bakery or a quick pick me up. We’ve stopped here on the way to the Coast or on the way back depending on the time.

If you want to BBQ while staying at Elim Cottages or simply bring back a sandwich and snacks to your cabin, check out Cazadero General Store just down the road on Cazadero Highway or at the Duncan Mills General Store.

Both are well stocked and offer sandwiches and other snacks as well as regular BBQing fare. Just check the time each is open. Of course, there is a bigger grocery store in Guerneville if you want to pick up more supplies.  If you don’t have a cooler, you might not want to purchase too much as the frig in the cabin is small.

For a very special meal check out Terrapin Creek in Bodega Bay.  It is located about twenty miles away from Cazadero.   Terrapin Creek is a Michelin-starred restaurant so you will definitely need a reservation.  Be sure to book ahead of time.   Everything here is delicious.  I’ve enjoyed the duck breast as well as the Beef Rib Eye steak.   We have met friends who stay in Healdsburg when we are up this way.  They usually go back to Healdsburg after dining here but we choose to stay nearby.   It isn’t a bad drive back to Cazadero but it can be very dark and after a very nice dinner and some great wine we like to stay close by and not worry about driving.

Another reason we like to spend the night close to Terrapin Creek Restaurant is so that we can wake up early the next day and enjoy some oysters for a late breakfast.   There are so many great restaurants to eat fish in this area.  But our favorite is just down the cove.  Just keep driving past Terrapin Creek Restaurant and you will find Fisherman’s Cove.  We love the oysters here and 11:00 a.m. is just about the right time to start eating them!
